Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto Solution

Many factory head units only support wired CarPlay, so the iPhone gets plugged into the USB port every time you get in and unplugged when you leave. The wireless CarPlay solution is a small adapter that plugs into the head unit USB port. The phone pairs with it over Bluetooth and streams over 5 GHz Wi-Fi, connecting automatically after you start the car, with maps, music, calls and the voice assistant on the centre screen as usual. The same hardware can also provide wireless Android Auto and rear-seat screen casting.

PAIN POINTS

Pain Points

01

Plugging in on every trip

Wired CarPlay needs the phone in the head unit USB port, so short errands, school runs and fuel stops all mean plugging in again. The cable gets crushed on the console and the port loosens from constant use, causing drop-outs.

02

Replacing the head unit is costly and risky

Swapping in an aftermarket screen for wireless CarPlay means removing the dash panel and changing the wiring, and steering-wheel buttons, the reversing camera and vehicle settings may stop working, with warranty implications. Most drivers just want wireless connection without touching the car.

03

Separate solutions for iPhone and Android

When one family member uses an iPhone and another uses Android, CarPlay and Android Auto are two different protocols. An adapter that supports only one stops working when the driver changes, and dealers have to stock two products.

04

Rear passengers are stuck on phone screens

In ride-hailing cars, business vans and family trips, rear passengers who want to watch a video or share photos have to hold the phone up or pass it around. A rear screen that only plays local files runs out of content fast.

SOLUTION

How We Solve It

iPhone / Android
▶
Bluetooth + 5 GHz Wi-Fi
▶
Wireless CarPlay Adapter
▶
USB
▶
Factory Head Unit

Plug into the factory USB port, connect automatically

The adapter plugs into the head unit USB port normally used for the phone and is powered from it. Pair the phone over Bluetooth once, then it reconnects automatically every time you start the car, even with the phone in your pocket. No dash removal and no wiring changes.

Bluetooth to pair, 5 GHz Wi-Fi for data

Bluetooth handles discovery and pairing, while picture, audio and touch data travel over 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Touchscreen, steering-wheel buttons and the car microphone keep working, so maps, music, calls and Siri behave as they did with the cable.

CarPlay and Android Auto in one adapter

The same hardware supports both wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, so iPhone and Android phones both connect and the adapter stays the same when the driver changes. Supported protocols and the vehicle list are confirmed per project.

Wireless casting to rear screens

Rear entertainment screens can take an ANLYA wireless video receiver, sending the centre-screen or phone picture to the back seats so nobody passes phones around. It can also be built as a standalone rear casting box with an enclosure and mounting made for the vehicle.

SELECTION

Selection & Design Notes

  1. A wireless CarPlay adapter only works with head units that already support wired CarPlay; cars without CarPlay need an aftermarket head unit design.
  2. CarPlay products sold to the market need Apple MFi certification; plan its time and cost at the start of the project. We help prepare it.
  3. USB power available from head units varies by vehicle, so measure adapter power and inrush current on the target cars.
  4. Cars see wide temperature swings and vibration, so design the enclosure cooling, components and mounting for the vehicle environment.
  5. Choose rear-seat casting range and resolution per project; ANLYA 4K60 / 4K30 wireless video modules can be used.
FAQ

FAQ

Q1My car only has wired CarPlay. Can it go wireless?
Yes. The wireless CarPlay adapter plugs into the USB port the car uses for the phone. After Bluetooth pairing the phone streams over 5 GHz Wi-Fi and connects automatically, with no dash removal or rewiring. The head unit must already support wired CarPlay.
Q2Can an Android phone use a wireless CarPlay adapter?
Android phones use Android Auto. The design can support both wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto in one adapter, provided the head unit supports Android Auto. Protocols and vehicles are confirmed per project.
Q3Does a wireless CarPlay product need MFi certification?
CarPlay accessories sold to the market need Apple MFi certification. The brand owner applies and it takes time, so plan it at project start. We help prepare the hardware and documentation per project.
Q4Can you build the wireless CarPlay adapter as OEM / PCBA?
Yes. We design the adapter board for your vehicles and fit (factory or aftermarket), develop the solution and build PCBA, with white-label OEM available. CarPlay accessories sold on the market need Apple MFi certification applied for by the brand; we support the hardware and documents per project.
