What UVC is
UVC, USB Video Class, is the USB standard for video devices. Computers and Android devices include a UVC driver, so ordinary USB webcams, conference cameras, USB microscopes and endoscopes show a picture as soon as they are plugged in. A UVC camera outputs USB data, while monitors, switchers and capture cards take HDMI, so a converter is needed between them.
Why convert UVC to HDMI
The usual setup puts a PC between the USB camera and the HDMI output, which adds size, boot time and an operating system to maintain. A UVC-to-HDMI module turns the camera picture straight into HDMI for a monitor, recorder or HDMI capture device, with no PC in the path. Industrial inspection, medical endoscopy and meeting rooms with fixed installations use this often.
Combining with a wireless video link
The converter's output is standard HDMI, so a wireless video transmitter can follow it and send the USB camera's picture to a distant screen. This combination suits camera positions where running a cable is awkward; the exact setup is evaluated per project.
ATE9946 is a UVC-to-HDMI output module in development. It converts a USB UVC camera signal to HDMI at up to 4K60 without a PC and can be combined with our wireless video modules for a wireless UVC solution. Package, supply and availability are TBD, and the spec can be shaped around customer requirements.
